Photovoltaic System

Building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) are photovoltaic materials that are used to replace conventional building materials in parts of the building envelope such as the roof, skylights, or facades. They are increasingly being incorporated into the construction of new buildings as a principal or ancillary source of electrical power, although existing buildings may be retrofitted with similar technology. The advantage of integrated photovoltaics over more common non-integrated systems is that the initial cost can be offset by reducing the amount spent on building materials and labor that would normally be used to construct the part of the building that the BIPV modules replace.

A Photovoltaic system, which is also known as PV system, is used for electricity generation by means of photovoltaics, from light to electricity energy. Electricity of direct current (D.C.) will be generated within the system. There are few common types of common systems as follows. Each of them have different applications under certain physical environment.

Solar Water Heating System

Solar Water Heating System is a system making use of the energy of solar radiation for heating of water. Hot water will be transferred to storage tank in prevention of heat lost. This is an environmentally-friendly approach in for heat generation and less amount of electricity or natural gases would be required for water heating.

Horizontal-axis Wind Turbine

The rotation axis of the turbine is parallel with the wind direction. When the blade receive pressure from the wind and the turbine starts to move. Wind turbines of different number of blades could be found around the world by 3-blade-form has been proved with the highest efficiency and widely adopted in construction of new wind turbines. Normally direction of HAWT would have to be changed continuously in meeting the changing of wind direction overtime.

Vertical-axis Wind Turbine

VAWT is a new form of wind turbine where the rotation axis is perpendicular to the wind direction. Its design is comparatively simple and it does not have to change the rotation directions as the wind goes. There are two common designs, including the Darrieus and Savonius designs.

(2)Energy Saving Installation

Heat Pump System

Heat pump system is a facility relying on conduction in regulation of temperature. Pipes will be installed at a cooler sources and the temperature of air inside the pipe could be regulated. For climates with moderate heating and cooling needs, heat pumps offer an energy-efficient alternative to furnaces and conditioners. During the heating season, heat pumps move heat from the cool outdoors into your warm house and during the cooling season, heat pumps move heat from your cool house into the warm outdoors. Because they move heat rather than generate heat, heat pumps can provide equivalent space conditioning at as little as one quarter of the cost of operating conventional heating or cooling appliances.

 

There are three types of heat pumps: air-to-air, water source, and geothermal. They collect heat from the air, water, or ground outside your home and concentrate it for use inside.

Heat Shield Coating

Heat shield coating is a powerful insulation layer installing on the roof-top for reduce amount of heat transferring to the top floor of the building. Less energy can be used from air-conditioning after the installation of this system

Solar Window Film

Solar window films are pieces of films which could be attached to the windows in prevention of intense and direct solar energy (short wave radiation) heating up the indoor environment. Less energy can be used from air-conditioning after the installation of this system.

Kinetic Bike

Aquaponics

Kinetic bike is a system turning mechanical energy into electricity by generator. It can be treated as a sport or leisure facility which could generate renewable energy at the same time.

Aquaponics refers to the combination of aquatic culture and hydroponics. This system is closely related to the nitrogen cycle. Fish or other aquatic organisms will be reared in the fish tank and their metabolic wastes (ammonia) would be turned to nutrients of plants by micro bacteria. Water with full of nutrients will be supplied to the plants and they absorb excessive nutrients. This is known as purification of water where clean water can be brought to the fish tank again. Various crops could be grown in this system for consumption.

Eco Pond

Eco Pond is a facility which is focusing on environmental conservation. This is aimed at promoting environmental education and serve as a piece of land for conservation of particular organisms including aquatic plants, dragonflies and reptiles. This can be set up in the city center and act as temperature regulator as water has high specific heat capacity. Besides, it also provide aesthetic needs to human beings.

Organic Farmland

Organic farming is becoming more popular as chemical fertilizers have been widely adopted in agricultural activities of different regions resulting with serious environmental degradation of many different countries. With the use of excessive pesticides, human health has been considered as one of the greatest concerns. As a result, the concept of organic farming appears and organic farmland could be sustainable alternative of the future. This could act as food production media and serve as environmental education. Various crops can be cultivated, such as watercress, lettuce, cabbage, beans, cucumbers, and some herbs such as mint, basil, etc.

Air Purifier (Cartel)

This air purifier make use of light, plasma, and deep ultraviolet photocatalytic air pollutants in the eradication. It has got machine design, and it is small in size, space saving and easy to install, with low post-maintenance cost and no second pollution. For the more serious environmental odor design and manufacture, mainly used to clean and repair the environment, significant effects on the removal of pollutants and odors. The air purifier not only to remove trash rancid water, smoke, urine smell, musty, animal smell, burnt smell and other odors, but also to remove the car, hotel, meeting room, newly renovated or paint smell.

Wind Turbine System

Wind power is the use of air flow through wind turbines to mechanically power generators for electric power. Wind power, as an alternative to burning fossil fuels, is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean, produces no greenhouse gas emissions during operation, consumes no water, and uses little land. The net effects on the environment are far less problematic than those of non-renewable power sources. There are normally two types of wind turbines, including Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) and Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT). There are two types of generators, including the induction generator and variable speed generator. Variable speed could generate less energy but it require less start-up energy for rotation turbines which is comparatively feasible in Hong Kong.
